The only way to bring such a question to mind is after you have truly considered your actions within yourself and felt repentant for whatever you may have done.
In this life, there is a time for everything: a time to be angry and a time to be merry, a time for fighting and a time for reconciliation.
So many things happen in our lives. Some we cherish, others we despise, and some we deeply regret. The memories can be more terrifying than we can handle, and the guilt is always shouting within our heads. Who knows to what extent it can drive our mental state?
However, the mere sense of regret for something stupid or for a mistake you made out of anger or a desire for revenge is a sign of repentance and reconciliation. This is what God wants from you. Now you are ready to be forgiven.
Each one of us has done dreadful, ugly, and violent things that may hurt or dismantle others, circumstances, and society. We have all sinned. Do not think you are any worse off or better than anyone else. Even the saints we see in the Bible, like Paul, He was not born that way. He was a deep sinner who went on to torment the church, and even oversaw their arrest and some killings. Yet God still forgave Him. Are you any different?
God does not look on the outside but on the inside—your heart. That is what He really wants. It is not about how many hours you spend praying, pretending to be righteous, or doing good deeds that matters, but the state of your heart. Is it truly after God? That is what will make the difference. You are already forgiven through Christ our Lord and Saviour, and that forgiveness is unconditional. Yes, all sins were forgiven.
As it is confirmed here in Psalm 128:7-8 NKJV:
O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is mercy,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.
This is the promise of the Lord to all those who believe, even to you. As Jesus answered the Pharisees in Matthew 9:11-13 NKJV:
And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
Jesus did not come for those who are already righteous. No, He came for you and me—the sinners—to redeem us and give us a new life through Him.
You should seize this opportunity with all your strength and never deviate from its path, because only in it is true life. Stop listening to the devil lying to you and tormenting you with your past. Stand strong in His promise and equip yourself with the word of the Lord. You shall overcome.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)
If this is so, then surely your old life has been washed away and a new slate placed before you. Walk and live your life like one who has been redeemed, and put your past behind you for good.
