Every single Christian has a reason they chose to follow Christ. Some were initiated when they were young, others were persuaded by preachers. Others came searching for miracles, jobs, a partner, name it.
The problem comes when you come to Christ with a double sided heart. One foot in, the other out. You want to get that miracle, but also don’t want to let go of your secret sin. You want God’s goodness but can’t stop lusting over other people’s wealth.
What good is it to continue following Christ, when you very well know your heart is far from Him?
Can two get along unless they be agreed? Can you see the greatness and miracles you deeply seek for, without submitting to the will of God?
Or do you want to be like the wicked servants in the Lord’s vineyard?
33 “Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vine dressers and went into a far country. 34 Now when vintage-time drew near, he sent his servants to the vine dressers, that they might receive its fruit. 35 And the vine dressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them.
37 Then last of all he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the vine dressers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’ 39 So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine dressers?”
He will definitely destroy those wicked men. Wait, are you any different from these wicked men? Are you doing exactly what God told you to do, no matter how uncomfortable it felt? Is your heart really not envious of the ways of secular people? Don’t you have any secret lust that is in direct contradiction with the will of God?
Yet you expect Him to answer every single prayer and request. Even though fulfilling your request may harbor a way for you to fall back to sin. Can God really answer such a prayer? One with self pride at its core?
Just like the workers in the vineyard, so are many Christians today. God has blessed them abundantly but when it comes to conforming to His word. They are still jumping hurdles.
Many believers are quick to claim a good word from the Lord but slow in repentance. They detest correction and are very offended by convicting preachers.
Although, what good is it to accumulate wealth and fame on God’s terrain; if you can’t conform to the rules of the land owner?
Will you really get away with it? Is that wealth even yours in the first place? Or do you forget, the land owner can decide to chase you away, with nothing. When you fail to bear fruit as expected.
You who don’t want to conform to the will of God but identify as Christians. I will ask. Will the servant dictate to the master on how to rule His house?
The very life you have is His. The very money you have, He gave you strength to make it. Making you lose all that money, or that person you trust in, is very easy. But He has decided not to do that. Wouldn’t it be only reasonable to conform to the Master’s will for your own good?
