Definitely they aren’t. But how is that possible when He called all of us His children?
The question isn’t really about how God looks at each one of us. It’s more about how each one of us is useful to God. Read that again.
Are all Christians equally useful to God?
Definitely not.
Have a look at what Timothy said:
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, [h]sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
Timothy goes on to emphasize that to God, not every person is not a vessel of honor. Only those who have purified themselves and found worthy, are the ones prepared for the good work.
Weirdly Paul says this in Romans 2:10-11 NKJV
but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 11 For there is no partiality with God.
The latter verse clearly indicates that before God, everyone is the same. The way He looks at you is the same way He perceives everyone else.
However, if this is so. Why then did Timothy, as we read before, claim that we are of different value before God yet we are actually equal?
There is no contradiction between these two excerpts, they are rather flipping the picture from different perspectives.
For as much as we as believers in Christ are all equal before God. We hold different weights of purpose before God. Consider the difference between the function of a Manager and that of a cleaner within one company. Indeed both are company workers, and do report to the same boss. But are they of the same value before the boss?
Even more so with God and how He uses Christians. We are all workers of the house of Christ but something within each one of us, sets us apart.
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have [a]refused him. For[b] the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
The state of our heart makes us differ before God. Some Christians are purely repentant, others humble, others double minded, doubtful, and so forth.
Can surely God, who looks in the heart, look at each of these hearts with the same attitude?
Oh yes. But will He entrust them with the same position?
Definitely not. The state of their hearts, sets the measure apart. God has one thing He uses to judge, His word. And the further one seems far from His word, the less important they are to fulfilling His will. Now, if a man isn’t living in accordance with the will of God, what good is he?
For that reason, as much as every Christian is considered equally before God. They all don’t carry the same authority, nor the same privileges. With this being the case. Do you still think each one of us is equal before God?
