The ways of God’s Spirit often seem like foolishness to the natural human mind. As Scripture explains:
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Corinthians 2:14)
True understanding of God’s plan does not come through human reasoning or a carnal mind—it comes only through the revelation of His Spirit.
Adam vs. Jesus: One Man’s Act Affects All
Every person born into this world inherits a sinful nature through one man—Adam. His single act of disobedience brought sin into the world, and with sin came death. Because of Adam, our bodies are destined for death, and sin’s curse touches every generation.
But how can one man’s sin thousands of years ago be charged to everyone who comes after him?
The Bible answers this clearly:
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and this way death came to all people, because all sinned—
…But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. (Romans 5:12, 15–16)
Here is a profound parallel:
Just as one man’s trespass (Adam’s sin) brought condemnation and death to all humanity, so one Man’s act of obedience (Jesus’ death and resurrection) brings justification and life to all who believe.
Adam’s sin condemned the many.
Jesus’ sacrifice justifies the many—overflowing with grace far greater than the trespass.
For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. (1 Corinthians 15:21-22)
The Proof Is Still Visible Today
The curse that entered through Adam remains evident in our world:
- Women still labor in pain during childbirth.
- Men still toil and sweat to eat from the ground.
- Death still reigns over every human being.
These ongoing realities prove that Adam’s sin truly affected all of us.
By the same logic, the gift of righteousness through Jesus is even more powerful and real.
If the curse of Adam is still active thousands of years later, how much more is the grace of Christ—offered freely to all who believe—active and available today?
Why One Man’s Death Can Justify the Many
Jesus, the perfect and sinless Son of God, took upon Himself the full weight of humanity’s sin.
He died as the representative of all people—just as Adam represented all humanity in the fall.
One trespass brought universal condemnation.
One act of righteousness brought universal justification for those who receive it by faith.
The gift is free.
It is received not by works, but by believing in Him whom God sent.
Through Adam, death came to all.
Through Christ, life comes to all who are “in Him.”
The mystery is not that one man could affect so many—it is that God’s grace in Christ far surpasses the power of sin in Adam.
Believe in Him.
Receive the free gift of righteousness.
Be made alive in Christ—where Adam brought death, Jesus brings resurrection and eternal life.
