Sometimes good people suffer while the wicked live lavish and grand lifestyles. They oppress the poor and needy and lord it over them. They justify themselves in their hearts saying, “Who sees what we are doing? Who cares what happens to these nobodies?!”
Even King David witnessed wicked people tormenting his kingdom. He diligently cried out to God for revival and help against his enemies:
3 Lord, how long will the wicked, How long will the wicked triumph? 4 They utter speech, and speak insolent things; All the workers of iniquity boast in themselves. 5 They break in pieces Your people, O Lord, And afflict Your heritage. 6 They slay the widow and the stranger, And murder the fatherless. 7 Yet they say, “The Lord does not see, Nor does the God of Jacob understand.” Psalms 94:3-7 NKJV
Indeed, the wicked triumph for a season, and not all are immediately destroyed. Remember when Israel entered the Promised Land: the Lord told them He would not cast out all the nations at once. Instead, God fought alongside them as they advanced one by one. Yet even then, Israel failed to fully drive them out.
Through consistent prayer and intercession, David always asked God to stand and fight for him against all his kingdom’s foes. And did God do so? Yes, indeed.
Even in the days when David felt everything was going astray, God sustained him. David testifies to this in Psalms 94:17-19:17 Unless the Lord had been my help,
My soul would soon have settled in silence. 18 If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up. 19 In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.
And so will He do for you. God will never forsake the righteous, because you are His heritage. You are His sheep. What kind of shepherd would He be if He could not protect His own sheep from the predators?
Here is the heritage of those wicked men who torment God’s people daily: Though the wicked may sprout like a green branch, his days shall suddenly be shortened. He will be no more. You will search for him earnestly, but he will not be found.
Surely our Lord will arise for you and shame the devil. For we fight not against flesh and blood but against but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age… Ephesians 6:12 NKJV
Therefore stand and trust in the Lord your God. He will justify your cause. This is how David was able to overcome his enemies and triumphed in battle. As he declared at the end of Psalm 94, in verses 22-23:
22 But the Lord has been my defense, And my God the rock of my refuge. 23 He has brought on them their own iniquity, And shall cut them off in their own wickedness; The Lord our God shall cut them off.
If the Lord is truly your God, surely He will show up for you. If He did so for David, as we see in the verses above, what more do you have to worry about?
