“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. “

Excerpt from John 1:1 (NKJV)
Perhaps let me show you a simile to get this straight but promise me first; you won’t reveal this to anyone…
If yes, then continue with me.
The ‘word’ was there in the beginning? Was perhaps the first thing I asked myself too. Till I saw Genesis 1: 3 (NKJV)
“Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.”
Then God ‘said’— word. You can’t pronounce something without saying out the ‘word’ itself. If it be He- God spoke, then those were words He said; ‘let there be light.’
But how do this even translate to what John is saying?
Looking at the first line of John 1:1, there was the word, and the word was with God- as though two people are present in this instance? (God and the word)
Yes, it’s two people present. There is however one problem, who is this ‘word?’
Imagine we went to see a tree, and it was very beautiful; tender, thick dark brown bark and with magnanimous roots bulging out of the ground as they diverge from the tree stem.
Then a friend of yours on WhatsApp, asks you to describe to him what you saw. And you write down for him the exact description of the tree you saw- so that he can have a proper imagination (translation) of what I have shown you.
So, the words in the text you reply to describe the tree. Become a translation for him to see (imagine to themselves) what you saw. Read this again before you miss it.
Notice the ‘words’ you used to describe for them the translation of what you saw; but they didn’t themselves. But they can now narrate to others, what you saw and what it may have looked like, after reading and understanding your text.
Going back to John, let’s just imagine God be the tree you saw. And you described it to your friend, then He could imagine what God looked like too.
As if God is trying to translate (describe) himself- His features for you to imagine what He looks like.
The words (scripture) are a description of what comprises of God; His character, perception, appearance, name it. As when you described to your friend the appearance of the tree in much detail to make them get/imagine the picture of what you saw.
The ‘Word’ being Jesus. Jesus is the Word.
John is trying to tell you that ‘Jesus,’ the word; was with God and was there from the beginning of days all along.
Jesus is the word, incarnated into flesh. The word became the seed in the womb of Mary. As though God is saying, Jesus is my translation into human form. Hence if you want to find out what I look like; look at Jesus.
His life, His words, His miracles, His character is Me.
This is made evident in the ending context of the verse; ‘… and the word was God.’
Jesus was and is God, since He existed as ‘Word’ in times past till He became human through Mary. That’s why God was His father not Joseph.
I will soon be releasing another composition to explain why Joseph couldn’t be the father but for now let’s get John 1:1
Like you put an object in front of the mirror, and you see its reflection image on the other side. And so is Jesus, the image reflection of God.
Notice that however God is invisible, so don’t be blinded by Jesus images or pictures you see circulating in most religious places— that’s idolatry. God is word, not a person. Don’t pay attention to the picture you see but to the what the word says. For God is more like a character than He is a human.
The word, scripture is His direct translation of Himself to you. Jesus Himself says in John 14:6- 7 (NKJV)
‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”’
As though He is saying, I am the translation of God, if you know-see me, you have known God.
