“But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness he has done, he shall live. Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?” (Ezekiel 18:21-23)
God takes no delight in punishing the wicked or seeing anyone perish. What brings Him joy is mercy—watching a sinner turn away from their sins, repent with a sincere heart, and find life. When you come to Him humbly, confessing and forsaking your wrongdoing, He wipes the slate clean. Your past sins are forgotten; they are remembered no more.
His love for you knows no limits. While you were still a sinner—rebellious and undeserving—He sent His only Son to die in your place, rescuing you from the judgment and wrath you deserved.
Mercy, Not Sacrifice
“For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” (Hosea 6:6)
God is not looking for impressive religious performances or costly sacrifices to prove your worth. He doesn’t want you trying to earn His approval through outward acts of righteousness.
He wants to declare you righteous Himself—through His own work in you.
Jesus came for sinners, not for those who already think they are good enough.
When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Matthew 9:11-13)
That’s why Jesus spent time with tax collectors, prostitutes, and notorious sinners—not because they were upright, but because they needed transformation. He came to take broken, guilty people and make them righteous through His mercy.
In this way, mercy triumphs over judgment. We are made right with God not by our own efforts or good deeds, but through faith in Christ. He produces genuine righteousness in us from the inside.
Obedience Over Sacrifice
So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22)
The Father finds far greater pleasure in a son or daughter who listens and obeys than in one who disobeys while offering big religious gestures. Obedience is better than sacrifice—every time.
If you want God to entrust you with greater responsibilities and blessings, start by being faithful in the small things. Can you obey in the little areas?
We must move beyond old religious patterns and legalistic routines. God is not after external displays of “holiness” to impress Him. He wants your heart.
He delights when we surrender and yield to His Spirit instead of striving in our own strength to look good. He examines the heart—not just the outward appearance.
Mercy triumphs over judgment.
A repentant heart opens the door to full forgiveness.
True obedience flows from love and surrender, not from fear or performance.
And in Christ, the sinner is transformed into the righteous—not by what we achieve, but by what He has already accomplished for us.
Come to Him today—humble, broken, repentant. His mercy is waiting, greater than any failure, ready to receive you, forgive you completely, and make you new.
