The Power of Humility: The fastest way to glory

Humility is the only way up

The only way up is down?

Not so many people get to make it in life. Yet the few who do are not really any different or special. So what sets them apart from the rest of us? Or what can you do to rise to honour just like them?

There are many great figures we know of today who were born as nobodies but are now prominent political figures, investors, millionaires, and people with honour. There was a time when even I used to wonder, “If almost everyone thinks they are special, how come many of us end up ordinary?”

Then I realised that the people who made it do some things differently from the rest of us.Did they go to more schools? Attain more degrees? Were they just born rich? Were they a bit supernatural?

Surely some people are born into rich families, giving them a head start. That is a rare but very precious advantage. Although this idea creates a contradiction: if all those who make it are born with some sort of head start, then almost every successful person should come from a prominent family.

But is that the case? Obviously no.

Matter of fact, the most successful people are self-made. They had to fight hard to go that far. What then enabled these nobodies to fight and reach heights that many people can’t even come close to?There is a saying I once heard which reads:

“The only way up is down.”

Yes, that is the path to honour and glory: humility. As Jesus Himself said in Matthew 5:5 (KJV):

This secret was declared by Christ (God) Himself. This is all it takes to go up the food chain. But it is not that simple.

It is like taking a back seat in a car you so badly want to drive. Or like letting your child lead a company where you are an employee.

It means putting your ego, self-esteem, standards, and class aside. It means letting go of the idea that you are special and coming to the realisation that only hard work and persistence can push you ahead. It means trying again when things fail instead of complaining and pointing fingers at almost everyone apart from yourself. Such things take you nowhere.

Humility has a way of opening doors that were invisible to you because of ego. There is a way to it that keeps a nobody like me or you in check with reality, even when things around you are full of lies and distractions. Humility is the only true mirror of reality, because nobody really cares if you think you are special or better than them if you can’t show that through actual progress.

Now if your goal is to become a success, and you are ready to implement humility into your life. Don’t forget the second secret to success. Here it is…

As we see in the scripture above, if the meek shall inherit the earth, what then will happen to the proud?
