God created man to have dominion over the whole earth. But we have surely mishandled that trust. Some of us only wish we could just wake up in heaven!
However, the purpose of man was not to take him to heaven but to have him look after the earth. In doing so, God gave us His own Spirit in the beginning so that it became a part of us. He gave us a part of Himself. That is why David utters these words in Psalms 82:6 NKJV:
“I said, ‘You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High.’”
The dominion He outsourced to man came with authority. You are heaven’s ambassador on earth. Hence, you carry heavenly authority while on earth. That is what Jesus came to restore in His coming, as He said in Matthew 11:11 NKJV:
“Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”
This was when Jesus was talking about the arrival of the kingdom (heaven) on earth. Jesus came to restore to us the heavenly authority that was once lost through Adam. He entrusted it back into our hands—those who believe—and we sustain it by faith. Since we are called gods, you as a child of God are a “god” (you have authority). Yet most people live their whole lives without ever exercising or experiencing this authority.
Where is the power?
There may not be an actual place or circumstance where you will suddenly see this authority; however, it is tested in your everyday life—through faith. It manifests sometimes in what you say about yourself or others.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”
This is where you are given free rein to exercise the authority entrusted to you through Christ. However, this is a two-edged sword. If it can give life, death is not far behind!
I don’t know how many times you speak negative things about yourself, or how many times you curse your children and family, or how many times you encourage those who are weak, or proclaim the Word over yourself when in desperate situations. But that is how you exercise this power—not by speaking plain empty words, but by adding the weight of faith to them when they are uttered.
How to exercise authority as a son of God and triumph over the devil daily?
We see this when Jesus cursed a fig tree when it had no fruit and He was hungry, and indeed it dried up! And He said to His disciples in Matthew 11:23 NKJV:
“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”
Jesus performed many miracles, and He plainly told us the secret behind His power was faith in His Father. Isn’t His Father the same as yours?As it is, you shall declare a thing and it shall surely come to pass. There is power in faith, which empowers the words you speak.
Every great thing you know of was first an idea (a word) before it was transformed, refurbished, and manufactured into reality.
A clear example is this world we live in—yes, even Christ Himself. If you look at Genesis 2:19 and John 1:1:
“And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called every living creature, that was its name.”
God, after having created everything in the beginning, did not give these creatures names. He brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. How is it that whatever Adam called each living creature, that became its name? Did God not know the names, or did He give the authority to name these things to Adam? Or did Adam subtly discern the names of these creatures?The answer to that is for you to figure out.
Moving on to John 1:1-3 NKJV:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”

We see that the Word was the only thing that really existed in the beginning. That Word is later seen to manifest as God! The Word spoken of here is Christ, and it is shown to have been the expression of God, manifesting into flesh as Jesus—the One who died for you and me.
The word can only be recognized if it is spoken. That means these things were only manifested after they were said—just like the creatures after Adam named them, and they were so. You should also do the same: proclaim the Word over your life and loved ones, standing strong in faith on the promises of God until they manifest in your life. Only then can you truly claim you are a son of God.
