There is certainly a momentous dive into the identity of the Sons of God—from Genesis, through the time of Christ, and into the present day. Before Christ, the title “Sons of God” on earth was last seen before Noah’s ark and the great flood. The only other time this title reappears is when Christ is manifested, in Matthew. That means throughout the entire era from Noah until Christ, no one on earth bore that title—not even one, not even David.
Christ’s Mission to Redeem Authority
Once Christ was manifested, He had only one mission: to redeem to humanity—us, you—this very Adamic authority through His death and resurrection.
The Tragedy of Missing It
The disappointing reality is that many have missed it, even to the present day. From the Pharisees to today’s religious people, they walk as believers in God yet possess not a single ounce of heavenly authority. They glory in their carnal sacrifices and prideful deeds. This, in all its supposed holiness, is not what Christ truly called us to. He requires mercy, not sacrifice. That is why He entrusted His salvation to those who believed in Him—not to the righteous, the holy, or the learned. Only to those who believed. Beyond belief, they adjusted their lives to live in accordance with His will. In doing so, they fully seized the authority.
Peter’s Divine Revelation
That is why we read what Christ told Peter after he acknowledged that Jesus is the Son of God:
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.”
Have you ever realized that none of the disciples, after living with Jesus for a full three years, discerned that He was the Christ spoken of by the prophets—even after witnessing all the miracles and great works He performed?
This is why, when Peter spoke those words, Jesus was amazed. He knew that none of them truly understood His purpose or why He was asking this question about His identity. They may have thought, like the rest of the crowd, that He was merely a prophet, a man of God, or some strange figure with supernatural powers.
What Peter declared was a revelation—one not physically discerned but given by the Spirit of God. That is what Christ acknowledged in His reply to Peter. True Sonship is not a matter of talk, signs, and wonders. It is power, authority, and wisdom from above. This is why many religious and carnal-minded Christians, though believing in God, still miss it. By that I mean they fail to utilize this authority, as Christ and Adam once did.
The Incomparable Treasure of Sonship
The handful who come to this realization rarely ever look back—not because the place they are going is better, but because what they now possess through Sonship is the most valuable thing of all. This is the treasure and the kingdom Christ referred to in His parables: one worth selling everything you have for, one more valuable than your old life.
Consider this: if God is the greatest Being there is, what could be more valuable than becoming just like His Son, Christ? Just as every man’s son is precious in his eyes, so every soul that walks in Sonship is precious in God’s eyes. What greater privilege exists in this world or in eternity than this?
The Authority Bestowed
This is what that authority looks like:
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
He who takes his stand and takes hold of his authority through Christ is positioned to wield this Scripture in his life and make it manifest every single day. Through faith, all things are possible.
