The two servants of Christ

The two servants of Christ

Humble Beginnings and the Ways of God

There are not many great people in the Bible who did not have humble beginnings. That is one reason they remain good examples of the mysterious ways of God. The same way He worked with them is the same way He works today.

As servants of God through Christ our Lord, He has entrusted His church to us — His body. We became His body. We, as the church, sit with Him at the right hand of the Father. Yet Christ made a distinction between two kinds of servants in His church: the faithful and the evil. Their rewards and punishments differ, but that is not the aim today. What separates the two is how they live — those aligned with God’s will and those who are not. Many assume they are the faithful servant. Are you really?

Check Your Position Before You Ask

Before you even worry about what miracle God can do for you, first check your position with Him. How deeply is your life aligned with His will and His word?

Before you walk to His doorstep to ask for financial help, first consider whether your heart is in sync with His will. This begins with knowing which kind of servant you are.

Matthew 24:45–51 (NKJV)

“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods. But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

What a Faithful Servant Looks Like

If you consider yourself faithful and wise, you had better consider whether you are truly living as Christ described in this passage.

Are you keeping the laws set out in Scripture? Even when you keep those holy laws, do you follow them out of love or out of obligation? Do you often pray for those who hate you?

This is the kind of life a true servant of Christ should live. This is the kind of faithfulness that will impress the Master. Yet many who want miracles from God cannot even keep one of His laws.

Do Not Live as If the Master Is Delayed

I pray you are not the other kind of servant — the one who thinks Christ is still far from coming and lives as though there is no tomorrow. The one who claims to know Christ but is the first to open explicit sexual pictures online. This is the servant Jesus promises will be thrown out, and even the little he already has as a servant will be taken away.

Why face those consequences when you could keep God’s laws and enjoy His ultimate happiness and a settled sense of contentment?
