This reminds me of one man — a special one, though not so popular among Christians nowadays. Guess who?
He is the one the Bible first mentions as a man of faith — one who surpassed all those created before him. I am not speaking of Noah, Moses, or even Job. Let’s see what the Bible says:
When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
Why Faith Is So Powerful?
Faith in its simplicity is incredibly powerful. It is far easier to believe in Christ by faith than to perform numerous rituals and sacrifices (as was required in the old times) to move the hand of God.
I realised that the reason most Israelites failed to truly believe God was not that they doubted the miracles, but that they viewed those miracles as payment — a ransom for the sacrifices they were making. Like many occult practices still do today, they sacrificed to deities hoping for riches, influence, or whatever they desired.
The Israelites saw God as a businessman rather than One who was with them. This is the same mistake many modern-day Christians make today: pursuing God only in hope of miracles or financial breakthroughs. They go to extra lengths — acting very righteously, tithing fully, and fasting longer than necessary.
Religion vs. True Faith
This was the very reason Jesus repelled the Pharisees — those prideful, outward acts of righteousness. Such behaviour is pure carnality. Righteous character that stems from self-pride rather than the Holy Spirit is not faith; it is religion.
Men of faith are not those who pursue God only for miracles. They go beyond that. Faith is:
- Believing God even when He seems far away.
- Placing trust in Him even when your life is being destroyed by debt.
- Trusting God not only as your Saviour but also as your Master.
- Not hoping to be saved by grace without obeying His word.
Faith stems from the heart, not from outward appearance. Yet many are carnally minded — pretending to act right on the outside while their inside is rotting. True faith is love that begins within (in the heart and mind) and then manifests outwardly in acts of righteousness.
How Far Can Faith Take You?
Let’s return to the original question: How far can faith really take you?
First and foremost, no one is born with innate faith in Christ. We all receive it from Christ through His Spirit on the day we accept Him as Lord. It does not matter whether the faith is small, large, or moderate. Faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains. That is how powerful it is.If faith took Enoch to heaven, how far can it take you here on earth?
Faith is the currency of God.
This is how you obtain what you need. This is how you win spiritual battles. This is how you are born again and redeemed. This is how you overcome lust, pride, and every vice you struggle with. This is how you prosper.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
God does not allow hardships to destroy you. Sometimes He gives you an opportunity to learn how to exercise your authority through faith. Through faith, everything is possible.
Biblical Examples of Faith
If we look at the figures in the Bible, we see an endless list of those who did wonders through faith: Moses, Daniel, Elisha, Elijah, Paul, and many others. (I have intentionally skipped Jesus, though He is the greatest example.)Consider this powerful story:
When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”
The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith…”
Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.
The Key to Sustained Faith
Faith is believing that what you have asked will come to pass. This certainty is what amazes and moves God. Do not doubt, for doubt is the enemy of faith.
“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind… Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”
Faith is sustained only by the power of the Holy Spirit. To conquer, you will need it every step of the way. How far faith can take you depends on how far you are willing to go — for faith has no boundaries.
If faith conquered death, how much more can it do for you? As a Christian, you stand only by its power. In all that you do, let faith be your shield against all the fiery darts of the enemy. By it, you shall overcome. Amen.
