The latest research shows that almost 1 in every 3 young people in the United Kingdom suffers from loneliness. Statistics from the USA claim that over 40% of their young people feel lonely. This isn’t some distant statistic. It could be the teenager next door. It could be your friend’s younger brother. It could even be someone sitting in the same classroom as your own child.
With all the demographic changes, new trends, and social media breakthroughs in our modern society—most of which came with good intentions but at an inevitable cost—the internet has not only made our lives easier but has also connected us globally more than ever before. Now a Karen in Queens can have a live chat with a Peter in Sydney. We have never been more digitally connected — and we have never felt more alone.
Modernisation has not only created more jobs but has also unleashed new sorts of vices, from pornography addiction and gaming addiction to cyberbullying, and more. These have fuelled a rise in depression, loneliness, broken relationships, suicide and violence. When you consider all of this and then look at the young generation, it becomes clear they have been left confused, lost, empty, and without any sense of meaning—always chasing the next big thrill, living for the moment, and surrounded by chaos.
How much worse will it be for those born in this age of AI? Will they even be able to reason for themselves? Who will show them that there exists a life outside of social media?
Well, this isn’t anybody else’s responsibility. It is ours. It is yours. We are the current generation, and it is our duty to fight and ensure the next generation is in order.
But how can we help them if we ourselves are still lost?
Can a blind man lead a fellow blind man?
This era feels eerily similar to the days of Noah, when the earth was defiled in every direction—so much so that its Creator, God, decided to destroy it and rebuild it through one man.
And so it is today. Our world may seem defiled and filthy, with everyone looking out only for themselves. The education system appears to have abandoned our young generation, and even more ridiculous is the current political state. In such chaos, the only person who can bring order is you—not the leaders, not the pastors, nor the lawyers. All of the above have failed.
Not forgetting He who made you, us, and everything—God. He is the answer to all the desolation you are witnessing right now, whether in your life, your neighbour’s, or your country. He is a refuge to the broken-hearted, the motherless, the widow, and the blind.
The only reason we, you, and the world are being driven to such desolation is because we have ignored Him and run far from Him. As it was in the days of Noah, so it is today.
And the only lasting solution to this loneliness, addiction, depression, and emptiness so many are facing is a relationship with Jesus Christ.
