The power by which the hand of God operates is not dead nor shortened. It is still mighty and stretched out to save.If this is the case, how come we do not normally see the miracles Jesus performed being replicated in our modern churches? What has changed? Or perhaps, what was Christ doing differently that our churches have failed to do?
This very reason has driven many believers to the point of questioning whether God still exists or cares about their problems. If He sees us burdened with stress from mortgages, difficult relationships, and unsatisfying work, why aren’t the miracles He performed in the time of the apostles manifesting in our lives—despite our long prayers, acts of righteousness, and fasting? There are so many things believers have done in hope of bringing about the move of God in their lives, yet some have seen no difference.
Is God’s power still really working?
The problem most believers face when pursuing God is that they show more interest in God’s miracles, signs, and wonders than in Him as a person. It is much like a woman who wants a man for his riches, connections, and reputation rather than for who he really is.
We forget that God looks at the inside rather than the outside. Your heart matters more to Him than what you are doing outwardly. Another major bridge most Christians are failing to cross is awareness and knowledge of the ways of God through His word—the Bible.
As He said in Hosea 4:6 (NKJV):
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Because you have rejected knowledge,
I also will reject you from being priest for Me;
Because you have forgotten the law of your God,
I also will forget your children.”
His word is where He resides. It is here that His hand moves. Yet many Christians cannot even spare a few minutes a day to read a few verses from the Scripture and still wonder why the devil is triumphing over them.
Perhaps this is because most do not know how much authority the word itself carries. Here is what David discerned about the word of God:
“I will worship toward Your holy temple,
And praise Your name
For Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.”
God, in all His majesty, fame, power, and glory, has placed His word above Himself. Read that again.
Even though He is God, His word has come before Him. Now, what is more powerful than His word or will ever be in this life?
Above God is His word. If you are looking for what God looks like, then go study His word. You need to grow beyond the basic Christianity of religion, go deeper and seek God for yourself. Through applying the scripture in your daily life and living in accordance with it. Now if the Lord’s word is His glory, how much more glorious will your life be?
The miracles, signs, and wonders you seek will no longer be necessary because God will be right there. In His word in your life. This goes deeper than it sounds. However, all this is only possible with faith. This is how God operates. Even the power you seek can only be manifested through faith in His word. Remember what Paul said in Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV):
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
What made Jesus stand out isn’t some sort of strange secret, if it were so, the secret has been exposed. It’s the power given unto Him from His Father in heaven. Now guess where Christ found it?
Yes, in the word of God. The Pharisees and all the ancients had the word (the power) at their exposure but failed to fulfil it, the law. So Jesus came down and did it Himself. He lived and practiced the life required of any believer in accordance with the word. This is why He moved in so much power.
Not only did He show you the way but He entrusted this authority to all those who believe. Yes, the authority of sonship and ability to live in accordance with the word, by His grace.
So it’s not about being perfect, holy or righteous but practicing what He left with faith. This is where the power is.
